I’ve been waiting impatiently for Splinter Cell: Conviction to come out, and now that I finally have it and played it, I think it was well worth the wait.

They might have stripped the complex mechanics of the previous games away, but now the gameplay is much more action-oriented, which just adds an edge to the way the series is going. The cover system is almost flawless, mark & execute is fun to carry out (especially when you’re playing with a friend), and the interrogation scenes are amazing. The campaign may have been 4-5 hours, but for me, as long as the story is gripping, that 4-5 hours is usually the right amount of time to play a game that’s heavy on narrative. It’s a stylized, Bourne Identity-esque campaign of revenge; and Sam Fisher is, has, and will forever be one of the most badass video game characters of all time.

I loved the co-op and multiplayer just as much, but I still kinda miss Spy vs. Mercenaries mode. Other than that, I’d recommend Splinter Cell: Conviction to anyone who loves stealth games, action games, or games pertaining to general badassery. They pushed the series in the right direction, and made a game that is definitely one of the best games of 2010.

Was it worth staying up until midnight, getting my copy of Splinter Cell: Conviction at Gamestop, and playing the co-op with my friend until 3 in the morning?
Definitely. I’ll put the rest of my thoughts about it up when I’ve finished the single player.
